How To Junk Up A Perfectly Good 2000 BikeE CT

I have wanted a BikeE recumbent bike since I first saw them.  Their simpler-is-better engineering appealed to me.  And while the lust factor usually increases with the cost of a toy, in this case I think the effort to mass market an innovative bike at a low cost appealed to me even more.

The following pictures are in chronological order, showing the steady evolution of my BikeE as I add more and more gadgets and creature comforts.  It's fun to accessorize!  I'm trying to keep the weight down.  Honest.

25OCT02    My new 2000 BikeE CT, after I did the little bit of assembly required.  So far, it's fun to ride, even though it seems slower than my Trek mountain bike on flat terrain and very slow climbing hills.  I breathe harder trying to match my usual pace, and my legs are sore during even short rides because I've never ridden a recumbent bike before and I'm developing new muscle groups.  At least I hope that's the problem.

25OCT02    The first addition was a trunk.  This one is a completely waterproof flat bag I originally purchased for kayaking.  It has a simple and absolutely waterproof roll closure.  The bag costs $27.50 from www.nrsweb.com  Unfortunately, you can get it in any color you like as long as it's red.  Item number 2970XL, about 2800 cubic inches.  Four smaller sizes are available, as well as other dry bag designs.

8NOV02   Lots of new stuff!  I replaced the stock platform pedals with Shimano PD-M324 pedals, added a Planet Bike Protege 9.0 computer, two water bottle cages and Planet Bike recumbent fenders front & rear.

Bike Weight:  36.615 pounds
Weight change: +1.702 pounds

Thanks for checking out my BikeE recumbent bike modifications.  I'm still at it, with more parts on order all the time.

Go biking.  Your body will thank you, and it's good for your mental health too.
